Bishop's Castle Ride
Miles:
Approx. 375
Day and Time: Sunday
Duration of
Ride: Total Time - Picture,
Fuel & Food 10.0 hrs. Driving Time - 8.0
hrs.
Description
of Ride:
This ride will take a
southern route to show you a different
side of Colorado riding.
With less aggressive
roads you will have a fun filled day
heading south visiting
a place called Bishop's Castle. A very
interesting little place that everyone
should see at least once. A castle, still
under construction and being hand built by
one man, Jim Bishop. Over the last 30
years he has carried in over 1000 tons of
rock and used them to build his castle.
You may have
visited this castle in years past but Jim
is constantly building and adding to his
master piece. From year to year many
changes take place.
Some say Jim
Bishop is eclectic. Maybe, but most say
he's just crazy. Join us for this ride and
make up your own mind.
Be sure to
check the link below for the history on
this amazing example of what one man can
do.
SPECIAL NOTES:
It is highly recommended
that you grab several bottles of water at
the hotel before you leave on this ride. The
southern routes can see temps above
100 and
there is no place to find water. If you
can't carry the water, make sure to ask the
ride leader or a friend to throw in a couple
extra bottles for you.
And, bring plenty of sun
screen! This is the second most important
item on your southern packing list. We will
be at elevations between 5000 and
10,000 ft. and it is very easy to burn.
(light long sleeve shirt is helpful)

Ride
Miles:
223 miles
Day:
Sunday
Duration of Ride:
Total
Time - Pictures, Fuel and Food 8.0 hrs. Driving
Time - 4.7 hrs.
Description of Ride:
Many of
you have ridden the Trail Ridge Road and
enjoyed the scenery and wildlife in the
area. You have also gone through Estes Park,
either passing through or stopping to eat.
This ride takes
you to the area but with a very different
idea in mind. The focus is to slow down a
bit, spend more time in Estes Park to enjoy
the town and sites, and enjoy the back roads
and canyons around Estes Park.
Devil's Gulch is
one such road. Not generally traveled being
north of Estes and a bit out of the way for
our normal rides. Today, we leave the normal
behind and ride the roads less traveled.
We will leave
the La Quinta taking C470 skirting Denver to
the southwest through Golden. From the
foothills of Golden we take Golden Gate
Canyon to Hwy 119. Turning right onto one of
the best roads we have to ride, the
Peak-to-Peak Highway with many photo
opportunities along the way.
With a brief
stop at The Chapel on the Rocks we travel
north to Estes Park for lunch and walk
around the town. After lunch, we head onto
Devils Gulch road. Then east thru Big
Thompson Canyon, then traveling south down
along the Front Range thru Golden, C470 and
back to the motel.

Pikes Peak COG Railway Ride
Miles:
136
Day:
Monday
Duration of Ride:
Total time
- Pictures and Stops 7.0 hrs. Driving Time -
3.0 hrs.
Description of Ride:
Yet another new
ride for 2008 and we are very excited to
offer this ride on the schedule. The views
are spectacular and rich with history. The
most visited mountain in North America and
the second most visited mountain in the
world. Second only to Mt. Fugi in Japan.
Pikes Peak is
31st on the list of 54 fourteeners in
Colorado at 14,115 feet above sea level.
Named after Zebulon Pike the first man to
explore and document the mountain. Did you
know that Katherine Lee Bates visited Pikes
Peak and the views inspired her to write the
song America the Beautiful? It's a must see
if you've never been to the top.
I know you've
heard of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. You
can't appreciate the race until you see the
narrow dirt road in person with the sheer
drops.
Because it is
a dirt road and not knowing the conditions
we will find, we have opted to take the COG
Railway train to the summit. Fee's to be
posted with final details.
Riding to Manitou Springs you will pick up
the train and take it to the top of Pikes
Peak. After which you return to Manitou for
lunch, stopping at the Garden of the God's
and beck to the motel.
This is going
to be another great Colorado Range Riders
Ride, leaving you with memories that will
last a lifetime!

Ride with a View
Miles:
178
Day: Saturday
Duration of Ride:
Total time
- Pictures and Stops 6.7 hrs. Driving Time -
4.5 hrs.
Description of
Ride:
An old ride with a new slant
for 2008.
I have no doubt, our buddy Wally would kick
the dirt, scratch his head and ask one
question. "What's the point?".
Horsepower
Hill as you know was designed for a spirited
pace. With all that spirit, no one has seen
or enjoyed much of the scenery. Believe it
or not, this is a very scenic ride with much
history.
So, what we
did to curb any major throttle twisting was
reverse the Horsepower Hill route. Now you
will be able to take this ride at a pleasant
pace, enjoy the scenery and the ride from a
new perspective.
Leaving the
motel taking I-25 to C-470 and picking up
Hwy 285 to Pine Junction. Following the
north fork of the South Platte the scenery
begins. Through the wooded areas, and
twisties you go through Pine, Buffalo and
then into Deckers. This area is worth a
look. Manitou Springs, Woodland Park and

Sometimes we offer different destinations,
or we reroute the ride to keep it fresh and
interesting.
This years
ride to Steamboat Springs gets a little of
both, a new and interesting route with added
areas of interest along the way.
Admittedly the
Steamboat Scream is a long ride with 8.3
hrs. of saddle time. It's not designed
to stop every hour and take a break, but if
you want to ride, keeping a brisk pace to
see some great scenery, this is the ride for

Trail Ridge
Road
Ride
Miles:
268 miles
Day:
Monday
Duration of Ride:
Total
Time - Pictures, Fuel and Food 8.0 hrs.
Driving Time - 5.6 hrs.
Description of Ride:
Many of you
have ridden over Trail Ridge Road and passed
through Estes Park over the years. There is
no better area to show off what Colorado has
to offer like Trail Ridge and the Rocky
Mountain National Park. The wildlife and
scenic stops are spectacular. It's a
beautiful park and ride.
This year to mix
it up a bit and enhance this great ride we
have routed it a bit differently. The chosen
route for 2008 is by far, the most scenic
and diverse we have ever offered.
You leave the hotel
taking I-25 to C-470, west to I-70. Heading
west on 70 we pick up Hwy 40 to Empire and
Berthoud Pass. Berthoud is a great ride. It
offers tight hairpins and switchbacks just
to warm you up. Please note: If the speed
limit says 10 MPH, believe it.
Stopping in
Grandby for fuel and a brief break, you head
on through Grand Lake and into Rocky
Mountain National Park. Enjoying the ride
through the park with its many picture stops
and wildlife you drop down into Estes Park
for lunch.
Leaving Estes we
head for 119 and the Peak to Peak
Highway into Nederland for our second fuel
stop. From Nederland taking Coal Creek
Canyon to Hwy 93.. Picking up 6th Ave. to
the C-470 intersection and back to the
motel.
This is a great
ride with a new route, and you'll be talking
about it for months to come.

Walk in the Park Ride
Miles:
TBD
Day:
We're
sorry to say, this ride has been cancelled
due to unforeseen difficulties.
Duration of Ride:
Description of Ride:
This ride was new last year and it had a bit
of a twist. The purpose was to show
you Colorado from a Texan's perspective.
This ride took a quick hop down the highway to
Estes Park for a visit in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Our friend AMS Medic showing you his favorite
National Park in a way you never seen before. On foot.
We left
the bikes in the park for brief time while venturing out
on a few short nature trails to see a side of the park
few people ever see.
Joe and
crew did a great job and it was a huge hit. We are
currently working with Joe once again to offer this
ride. Logistically it is very difficult to put together
and we may not be able to do it. Only time will tell...

Loveland, Boulder and Carter Lake via some
great less aggressive back country mountain
roads and then to I-25 for the highway ride
back to the hotel. If you prefer the back
roads over the highway, just turn around and
reverse your direction. I promise you will
be pleasantly surprised how different the
same road looks from the reverse direction.
You will have no problems
finding fuel in the Lyons or Loveland areas.
Carter Lake is the second
largest reservoir in northeastern Colorado
and is the principal storage site for the
Colorado-Big Thompson River. If you chose to
drive into the reservoir a parks fee is
required. Information on Carter Lake can be
found here...
